Each spring the Rotary Club of Waupaca sponsors an International Dinner to recognize and celebrate the goodwill and friendships we have with people throughout the world. In keeping with one of our club objectives, "the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace," the International Dinner gives us an opportunity to do just that. The event allow us the chance to visit with RYE (Rotary Youth Exchange) inbound students from Rotary District 6220. We learn about their home countries and experiences as exchange students. We usually host six to eight students in addition to our own students. Don't miss this fun-filled evening:
Celebrate Waupaca's vibrant international relationships
Share experiences with exchange students and learn about their countries and cultures
Meet our remarkable local young ambassadors
Enjoy performances by student musicians
Participate in the Silent Auction
Support valuable student exchange activities
This year the dinner was held at the Gerold Opera House in Weyauwega. The event was held in cooperation with the Waupaca International Cultural Exchange Committee (WICEC), who sends Middle and High School students to our sister city in Japan each summer. The menu included a fantastic Irish dinner, with salmon or Sheperd's Pie (with beef tips and Buiness). We were entertained by the Waupaca Middle School Band Ensemble directed by Mr. Greg Biba. And for a special treat, Ally Mukwazhi (our RYE student from Zimbabwe) shared a beautiful interpretive African dance!
Income from this event will be used for student exchange activities of the Rotary Club of Waupaca and the Waupaca International Cultural Exchange Committee (WICEC). If you cannot attend, consider purchasing tickets and giving them to another couple or family. These families may one day become a host family or have a child of their own in the RYE Program. Another option is to give a donation!
