Youth Rotars

Two high school students are invited to be guests at each Rotary Breakfast meeting. Each student attends 4 consecutive Rotary meetings as their schedules permit. These visiting students are in addition to the regularly attending two outward bound Waupaca students, and the two or three foreign exchange students.

Rotary Youth Leadership RYLA

Each year, thousands of young people take part in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program worldwide. Young people ages 14-30 chosen for their leadership potential attend an all-expenses-paid seminar, camp, or workshop to discuss leadership skills and to learn those skills through practice. Rotary clubs and districts select participants and facilitate the event's curriculum.

RYLA aims to:

  • Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth.
  • Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders.
  • Encourage leadership of youth by youth
  • Recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities.

Each year, the Waupaca Breakfast Rotary Club sends several students to the RYLA conference in Manitowish in May. For more information on the RYLA program, contact Waupaca Rotary.

World Affairs Seminar

The World Affairs Seminar is a unique, high energy educational program for high school students which provides a forum for future leaders to be introduced to some of the most perplexing global issues and problems. It enables hundreds of the best and brightest students from around the world to come together to study and discuss these issues in a safe and non-threatening environment. Participants also learn about each others' customs, traditions, opinions, and aspirations. The academic program is based on a central theme. Area experts speak on related topics. Each participant will be a member of a small study group which will develop a position paper during the Seminar. The daily schedule consists of lectures, films, small group discussion sessions, and opportunities to participate in social and recreational activities across the campus.

The Waupaca Breakfast Rotary Club sends 2 high school students to the World Affairs Seminar at UW-Whitewater each year. For more information, contact Waupaca Rotary.
