Class of 2009

Waupaca Rotary club is nearing the end of its 12-year commitment to mentor the Waupaca students who will graduate in 2009. We began working with the students when they were in first grade. Five times a year, we visit the kids' classrooms and, in cooperation with the teachers, present pre-arranged programs of interest. The goal of "Class of 2009," named after the year that these youngsters will graduate from high school, is to ensure they all finish high school. This is part of Rotary International's commitment to vocational and community service.

In May of 2005, the Waupaca Rotarians joined up with our Class of 2009 students to work on cleaning up the parks in the Waupaca area.

United Reading for Success

United For Reading Success is a first grade tutorial program that focuses on increasing student reading achievement. The focus of this program is to bring students to grade level in reading by the end of the school year. Community volunteers including Rotarians receive extensive training. The program runs during the school year with students receiving one-on-one instruction from tutors. The strategies used by the tutors reinforce the first grade reading program.

There are currently United for Reading Success programs at the Waupaca Learning Center and Chain O' Lakes Elementary School.

For more information on this program or to volunteer, contact Waupaca Rotary.

Blood Drives

Waupaca Rotary teams up with the Waupaca Red Cross to give Waupaca area residents an opportunity to give.  Email contact

Riverview Plaza

In 2005, Rotary International celebrated its centennial anniversary. In recognition, the Waupaca Breakfast Rotary Club is built a plaza in Riverview Park in downtown Waupaca to focus on the natural beauty of the area and to make the park a more inviting place for the citizens of the Waupaca area to gather.

Jamaican Dental

Dr. Dennis Mackin leads a professional dental group  once a year to the poorest parts of Jamaica for a week of intensive dental care and oral surgery.  The word spreads quickly and the residents line up to receive relief.  The Waupaca Rotary Club gives money to help purchase equipment and send hygienists to assist.

Gamefest

Cribbage, backgammon, and sheepshead tournament and instructional seminars. Open to all players, all levels. Tournament fees paid back as cash prizes.  Held on the second weekend in March. Registration begins at 7:30 AM Saturday. Details on the brochure.

Hundreds of players enjoy the competition, food, and camaraderie.

"Waupaca's Own" Concert

We celebrate the talented singers who got their musical start here in the Waupaca schools by providing an opportunity for Waupaca alumni to perform in their hometown.  Donations by sponsors and attendees of the summer concert support the Waupaca Rotary Club's educational efforts and also directly supports the music department at the Waupaca High School.

Oktoberfest

The second weekend in September, Waupaca Rotary celebrates the end of summer with a beer tasting festival.  It's all music and fun  at the Riverview Park just off Main Street in downtown Waupaca

International Dinner

Each Spring, our club sponsors an international dinner to recognize and celebrate the goodwill and friendships we have with people throughout the world. The RYE students provide the attendees with an opportunity to ask and learn more about their cultures.
